The School of Engineering runs five Departments. Biomedical Engineering,Computer Engineering, Computer Science (BSc. Hons.),Electronics and Communications Engineering,Oil and Gas Engineering.

Biomedical Engineering Department

Biomedical Engineering uses engineering principles in physical sciences, biological and medical sciences to improve diagnoses, and treatment in healthcare delivery. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to improve healthcare diagnosis and treatment. The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established in 2006 (the first in West Africa) for the purpose of con-tributing to the growing healthcare needs of Ghana in the area of hospital equipment and technical expertise.

About 490 students are in the Biomedical Engineering Department.Our teaching and research focus is to equip students with the knowledge re-quired to effectively contribute to national development in the areas of design of medical instruments, devices and software, and to conduct re-search to solve clinical problems.

 

The Department has the following well-equipped laboratories:

Department of Computer Engineering

Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree is an in-depth study of Engi-neering software and hardware concepts of Computer Education. This Department was set up to train highly skilled Computer Engineers and professionals to meet the ever increasing demands of hi-tech in a vibrant modern technological age. The academic programme began in September 2006 with 12 students.

Department of Computer Science (BSc. Hons.)

 The Computer Science department was established to train highly skilled Computer Scientists and professionals to meet the ever increasing tech-nological demands of modern society. The academic programme began in November 2002, with only 8 students; today there are 200. During the re-accreditation process in 2005, an international team of experts ad-judged the programme to be the strongest in Africa,therefore recom-mended for the programme to be upgraded from B.Sc. Computer Science to B.Sc. (Hons) Computer Science.

 

All Nations University College is one of the few Universities in the coun-try with, qualified full time faculty in Computer Science. The University has invested in sophisticated modern computer laboratories for practical training. Our graduates are in high demand due to the quality of our pro-gramme.

Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering

The department of Electronics and Communications Engineering was established in 2005 with an initial intake of 25 regular students and 71 weekend students. To date the department has 400 students. The depart-ment was established with the vision to produce professional Engineers to serve not only Ghana or Africa but the world at large. The Department has dedicated faculty members who teach and support students at all times. All faculty members are currently carrying out research on ad-vanced technologies in the following areas: Wireless Sensor Networks, VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, Networking, Digital Signal Process-ing, Programmable Logic Controller and Digital Image Processing. The Department has the most advanced state of art laboratories: The Elec-tronic work bench Lab, Electronics Circuits Design Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab, VLSI Design Lab, Embedded Systems Design Lab, Mi-crowave Lab, and an Optical Communication Lab.

Department of Oil and Gas Engineering

 Oil and Gas involves the production of crude oil and natural gas eco-nomically and in environmentally safe manner. The Oil and Gas engineer works cooperatively with geologists and geophysicists to locate, describe and evaluate reservoirs through a variety of exploratory and modeling techniques. The Oil and Gas engineer in collaboration with mechanical engineers further oversees the planning of recovery methods and drilling operations. The O&G engineer designs integrated strategies for primary and improved recovery schemes, and designs hydrocarbon production and treating facilities.

 

The proposed Oil and Gas program is designed for the student to acquire a strong understanding of basic sciences, engineering sciences and technology. The primary concern is with the movement of oil, gas and water, in various combinations as pertains to a particular formation, through porous media. Once these fluids and soil particles (which are invariably present) are brought to the surface. The Oil and Gas engineer is involved with separation and processing to achieve qualities suitable for further operations such as refining. Purification and other separation processes are common between Chemical engineers and Oil & Gas engineers and are called Unit Operations. Other processes such as fluid flow in pipes and transfer of heat are also common between the two disciplines. The Oil and Gas engineer is directed towards activities such as characterizing reservoirs, drilling, logging of wells and evaluating formations, testing the wells, production and analyzing efficiencies of the operation, safety and environmental issues. After primary production of light crude, driven by gas pressures, most of the oil is still underground. The oil and Gas engineer designs schemes to improve recovery from such systems, and also to treat and/or upgrade the oil and the gas brought to the surface.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements described in this section are minimal for consideration for admission and should be viewed as guidelines only. All Nations University College reserves the right to accept or deny admission of applicants without explanation. A review of an admission decision may be requested provided that substantially new and significant information is supplied to the Admissions Board. To meet the needs of applicants with diverse backgrounds, ANUC has developed a number of admission categories.

Where general requirements do not cover, the interview process that each applicant will undertake, will determine his/her qualifications. Such interviews will be conducted by the Registrar's Office or those assigned by that office.

General Admission Requirements

The National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) Ghana directives guide the Admissions Policy for school candidates. All applications to the University College must be accompanied by Original Transcripts from previous institutions or examination bodies. Awarding institutions must be accredited and recognized by the National Accreditation Board.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMME
1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS:

The general requirements for admission of WASSCE and SSSCE candidates to first degree programmes are three (3) credit passes in three core subjects and three (3) credit passes in three relevant elective subjects or better.

  • SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects or better.
  • WASSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects or better.
  • An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the University College must have aggregate 24 orbetter, with at least credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, and Integrated Science. Social Studies may be accepted for non-Engineering Programmes, but Integrated Science is preferred plus three (3) elective subjects, or their equivalent relevant to the chosen programme.
  • Candidates with aggregates higher than 24 will NOT be admitted for degree programmes. Such applicants may apply to attend the University College's PreUniversity programme.
2. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPUTERSCIENCE (HONORS):
  • Applicants must have at least a credit pass (WASSCE A1-C6 or SSSCE A-D) in Physics.
  • Applicants with credit passes in Elective Mathematics will be preferred
3. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGINEERINGCOURSES -

This applies to all Engineering Programmes;

  • Applicants for Engineering must have credit in Physics and Chemistry.
  • For Biomedical Engineering, Biology may be accepted instead of Chemistry.
  • Applicants with credit in Elective Mathematics will be preferred
  • Applicants who do not have Elective Mathematics may apply to attend the University College's PreUniversity programme.
4. GCE (GENERAL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION):

Applicants must have CREDIT passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject for non-science students) and an Arts subject for (Science students).

5. ABCE (ADVANCED BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION):

Applicants must have credit passes in three (3) core subjects plus at least two (2) electives relevant to the programme of study

6. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS HND: APPLICANTS WITH HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT:

Applicants must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e. at least 2nd Class Lower Division).

7. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR HND: APPLICANTS WITH HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT:

The HND must be in an area of study relevant to the proposed programme of study.

Applicants with First (1st) Class must have at least two (2) years of relevant work experience. Successful applicants will be admitted into Level 300 in a related field.

Applicants with Second (2nd) Class Honors (Upper or Lower Divisions), must have at least 1 (one) year of relevant work experience. Successful applicants will be admitted into Level 200 in a related field.

Applicants with Third (3rd) Class or pass must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience. Successful applicants will be admitted into Level 100, subject to passing an entry examination/interview.

Other qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.
